To highlight the vital role of healthy school meals in student success, the Twin Falls School District (TFSD) will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18, 2024. Throughout the week, community members will see banners displayed at all schools, celebrating the importance of school lunches.
National School Lunch Week offers an opportunity to spotlight how nutritious meals help students thrive both academically and physically. Research shows that many children receive their healthiest meals at school. From chicken sandwiches to pancakes, TFSD is proud to provide a wide variety of wholesome options to all students.
"Our goal is to ensure that every student's basic needs are met so they can focus on reaching their full academic potential," said Crystal Tubbs, TFSD School Nutrition Manager. "School lunches offer fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and milk, all while meeting federal nutrition standards that limit fat, calories, and sodium. This week allows us to showcase the positive impact our meals have on students' well-being and educate families on the benefits of our program."
The TFSD nutrition program is part of the federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which has been fueling students for success for 77 years and serves roughly 30 million meals a day. In TFSD, most schools offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to students, with paid meals kept affordable for all families.
